Er…What CCA?
We’re two-thirds into the month of January, and I’m guessing by this time, most students are pretty much oriented into their new school, have made at least a few good friends (whom most likely will stay with you till the end of school) and gotten used to the new subjects and syllabus. And, the most crucial thing, is of course, you would have decided what CCA to join.
When I was young (reminicent! reminicent!), there wasn’t much CCA to choose from (and that time, it was still known as ECA…aiyoh, can already guess which era I’m from…). Those offered were the Symphonic Band, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, Red Cross Society and (something different) Scottish Bagpipes, just to name a few. And of course, we had the Choir, Library, Chess Club, and other similar clubs. So what did I join?
Library, of course.![]()
But now, there are more choices offered – Air Rifle, Softball, Digital Lifestyle, Astronomy, Japanese Cultural, Guitaring and even Videography. Cool right?!
I also came across this website, while searching for CCA offered in schools - http://www.cca.sg/.
Taken from the website:
“CCA.SG is a large community site which will host all the CCA Groups’ forum from all primary schools to universities in SINGAPORE for FREE. In addition, as a member of CCA.SG Community Site, you will be able to create and build your personal online blog for lifetime.”
Awesome!
I also came across this post on this blog – http://ajguitar.blogspot.com and it features Anderson Junior College Guitar Ensemble and Ang Mo Kio Secondary School students playing Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” together. This was taken during the service learning project by AGE to teach AMKSS students some basic guitar skills. Check it out!
I think it’s a good idea to have a blog just for your CCA. Good publicity!
So, if your CCA has a blog, do link it here. And do tell us, if there are any interesting CCAs out there that you want to be featured. We’d like to know too!
Till then…

Hey, I joined the library club during my sec days and I enjoyed issuing books to my schoolmates

RL, me too! I love the sound of the beep whenever I scan the book with the ‘pen-scanner’ (dunno what it’s called).

Yasmin, I remember it’s called a “light-pen”. At least that’s what we called it. They were still in use at NLB libraries until 1998, when they were sort of phased out and other handheld barcode scanners were deployed.
