How did the blog get its name?
It began with a wall clock, ticking away quietly in a meeting room in Bishan Community Library.
Suddenly, Syirah, a student from ITE Bishan exclaimed, “What about the name ‘Teen o’clock’”?
She explained that since this was a blog for teens, containing up-to-date information, the clock represented “timely information”.
I took her suggestion and discussed it with my colleagues, Huey Bin and Ivan.
We thought of replacing the word ‘Teen’ with the letter ‘Y’, so it became ‘Y-o’clock’, as we felt that ‘Y’ not only represented ‘youth’ and ‘young people’, it also looked like the hour, minute and second hands of the clock. Also, we could get some interested teenagers to help us design a stylish logo for the blog at a later stage.
But the word ‘o’clock’ got in the way of the URL address. The complete URL would be too long and complicated if we used ‘Y-o’clock’.
So for practical reasons, the ‘’clock’ was removed and we were left with ‘Y.O!’
It stood for something already.
Easy to remember and no confusion less confusing.
And ‘Y.O!’ retained the essential of the original name ‘Teen o’clock’.
Special thanks to Angeline, Hui Ting, Yan Ling, Ylva, Jiasheng, Kelvin, Syirah, Jay, Stacy and Kamilah (students from ITE Bishan), who participated actively in the brainstorming session.
Without you, there is no Y.O!

Syirah and friends deserve a treat from the library for helping us out. Ice-cream, anyone? Really, I mean it!
