Till we meet again

Last month, I reviewed the book “Walking Naked” by Alyssa Brugman. This month, I’ve picked “Till we meet again” by Lesley Pearse. Both books contain friendship theme.
Beth Powell and Susan Wright promised each other to be “friends forever, whatever the weather” when they were ten. They are childhood best friends who mean the world to each other because of their troubled families. Sadly, fate intervenes cruelly, causing them to drift apart and lose touch.
29 years later, they meet again under the most unexpected circumstances - Susan committed murder and Beth was sent to be her lawyer. In spite of the years of separation, their friendship remains unshaken. Beth has grown into a successful woman haunted by a fearful incident from her past, while Susan has been shaped by many ordeals through her lifetime into someone whose only source of pleasure is killing for revenge.
The page turner would be sure to leave you with an unforgettable experience with the many surprises that leap out at you just when you think you know what is going to happen next.
On a personal note, I admire both characters for their remarkable qualities - Beth for her courage to take a leap out of the protective shell she has withdrawn into for her whole life; Susan for the self-respect she holds on to firmly despite being a criminal likely to face the worst punishment possible.
The touching tale shows how the way you face your life can dictate whether you change for better or for worse. Although some of you may be deterred from completing the epic novel by its thickness, I would say that it is certainly worthwhile.
