Reading Marathon (WSRP) & 101 Things @ Ping Yi
Last week, I conduct a booktalk at Ping Yi Secondary School as part of their Reading Marathon and WSRP. They were having their Reading Marathon, which lasted from 1pm – 9pm, where teens, teachers and even the school support staff, read in the comforts of the school library.
Seeing that the booktalk would be a great opportunity to talk about my YP project, proudly titled, ’101 Things for Teens, by Teens’, I told the teens about it. I shared how it was a fantastic platform for teens such as themselves, to showcase their talents or knowledge, in the form of a video or a workshop. Maybe it was due to the time (about 8pm), that majority of them seemed uninterested (I hope it wasn’t my voice!).
Well, that didn’t deter me to continue telling them the other details, such as the DOUBLE CIP hours they’ll receive, and PRIZES for the winners of the Best Videos under the video submissions category. I was a little excited when a few of the students raised their hands to ask me questions about the project, and I handed them out the flyers and the contest forms.
A Sec 2 boy asked if he could submit a video of himself doing anything. Well, I explained that he needed to submit a video of himself conducting an activity, like a ‘How To…’ kind of video. He had wanted to video himself telling a story, but said he would propose something else after thinking through it. A potential video submission! How exciting!
For the rest of you who wish to find out more about the project, click here. The contest is open so send us your video submissions or workshop proposals now!
Anyway, here are more photos from the Reading Marathon @ Ping Yi:
Shh…they are all reading.
Even the teachers are engrossed!
The girls found a cosy corner in their library.
I’d say it was a fantastic Reading Marathon! Can’t wait to get 101 Things submissions from the Ping Yi-ians!
