Wish you were here part 2: Citizen Reporters

A brief note of the brief BriefingJust this Tues, we held our ‘brief’ briefing for folks who were interested in helping to blog about the closing of library@orchard. Honestly, we (the Rambling Librarian and I) were a little afraid that no one would turn up and we would have to eat all the cakes ourselves end up consoling ourselves ;p

After promoting the idea on various sites (Tomorrow.sg, theory.isthereason, The Ridge etc. etc.), we’d hoped that people would rise to our call…

library@orchard Citizen Reporters!And they did!

Well, 8 people did :)

They were a fun group who were passionate about the library (it’s nice to feel loved) as well as blogging. Ivan completed his official powerpoint presentation in about 6 mins and the rest of the time was spent on QnA, bouncing off ideas and random chitchat. Oh yah, and eating cakes! For more pics, go forth to Ivan’s Flickr.

In fact, they’re so speedy that they’ve already blogged about the briefing. Wah! Am truly touched.

To our valiant citizen reporters: Thank You!

We hope you had fun and will continue enjoying yourselves blogging about the library. I’ve added your sites to our blog roll and we’ll be featuring your posts regularly. And thanks also for mentioning that we librarians are somewhat-not-boring! heehee.

If there’s anyone who’s still interested in being a part of this, do check out the “official powerpoint” at this link.

Next, drop us an email (occl@nlb.gov.sg) with your full name, NRIC No. and blog/website and also any queries you may have. We’ll get back to you with a confirmation email.

[…] Busy busy busy! What’s new right? Things have been rather hectic for me at work recently. Partly because I’d to finish up some presentations (for a workshop, and for this briefing). […]

I was worried no one would turn up. Then I was asking myself why there were only eight who turned up. But in truth, I say better these eight passionate folks than eighty! My hand-to-heart — I left the briefing quite humbled by the generosity of the eight of them who took up the call.

Finally, the photos and all the memories about the “very brief” briefing. Thanks for putting this up, Jillian. And Ivan, I had the same feeling too, I thought the crowd will be more actually. But when I saw the commitment level of each blogger on board (ehem ehem), I’m impressed! :-)

Can’t wait to read more from all the citizen reporters. Everyone is unique!

@Ivan: I would be worried if I were you too! 8 is actually a good number IMO.

Harlow!!! Hehe… thanks for inviting us to be part of this historical event. Pretty much reminded me when the Stamford National Library had to move. It was a sad feeling, but I wished I could do more back then. Well, at least now I can do something for somwhere where I used to masquerade myself to prevent me from being “informed to leave”. =) This place really brings back memories.

  8. Angela Says:

I didn’t know about it, or I might have gone! So will there be another library around the Orchard area? :( I loved library@orchard!

  9. Jillian Lim Says:

    Hi Angela,
You can still join us! Just send in your details to occl@nlb.gov.sg (see my comment above)…

There’re plans to have 2 libraries in the Orchard area but they won’t be up till about 2010..
