Where will we go?

While Jillian has been trudging around the blogsphere and the internet looking for your comments, I’ve been fielding sms-es and questions from friends and family: “Library is closing down! Where will you go?”

Comments have ranged from wondering if I’ll be retrenched (ha ha), and ‘no more lunch-time shopping for you, hahaha…’, to my parents discussing whether Ang Mo Kio or Toa Payoh library would be nearer to my house (it’s not as if you get the final say parents!).

Where will we go? That’s a question I can’t answer yet. We had plans to have an interim site in the Orchard area before the two new sites are completed, so you didn’t have to wait 3 years for the new libraries@orchard. This would also have ensured that the staff would stay together in Orchard Road (and also do a lot of moving together). Unfortunately, we were unable to find a suitable temporary holding site in this prime shopping belt.

So, long saga short, there are no plans for us staff@orchard as yet. Perhaps we could all take a long holiday in December before being split up into the different branches. It’s gonna be a sad thing when we leave this library.

staff@orchard, what will you miss most about working here?

come december instead of exotic holidays to farflung locales, i think we’ll be kitted out in construction chic outfits :P

It’ll be sad to leave library@orchard considering that I just got here a couple of months ago and have really been enjoying working with the staff here. library@orchard is a fun place with passionate staff!

And the shopping’s been great too…a lot of folks from my previous position…say that I look more glam now with all the shopping and all. Help! retail therapy’s too good and I can’t help it if it is part of my walk from the carpark to the office.

I’m proud to be part of library@orchard for the past 5 years. It has been one my greatest wish to work here and I have never looked back. Thanks for all the wonderful memories and also the support of all my colleagues and managers.I will definitely miss working here.

There’s no words to describe how I feel with the closure of library@orchard since I was one of the “pioneer” staff that got to see this branch kicks off as a niche library.

It has been a wonderful and fulfilling journey for me, to move on is really a ONE big step that I would rather not take but lucky for me, the memories are still there for me to keep. I will definitely miss working here more than Patricia do!

Btw, one thing I have to agree with Jasna, the shopping’s here is definitely great and I gonna miss it too :(

I can’t believe this! this is a nightmare! my favourite library closing… where would i go now? i am not a big fan of noisy kids running around as you will find at community libraries.

the most wonderful thing about this library is i get to read any book here before i decide if i liked it enough to get a copy from the bookstore downstairs. :’(

of course, it was here that i met the nicest people working in any library around the world. thank you! i will miss your wonderful smiles and kindness…

and i am going to miss going to the library. i wouldn’t have spent so much time at libraries if it were not for library@orchard.

Orchard Library will always hold special memories for me. After 3 years in clientele library, it is here that I resume comradeship and share delightful moments of joy and laughter with fellow NLBians. Scenarios of colleagues joining force to resolve problems to resume smooth library ooperations exhibit staff team spirit to surf positively forward to achieve NLB’s mission and vision. Will cherish the ambience of warmth and love here as we move off to new location.
