Every reader is a unique snowflake…
Maybe not thaaat unique, as bestsellers exist bcos lots of people read the same thing (and sometimes over and over again!). Anyway, this is not about bestseller-bashing, but more about what people like to read.
Some folks who left comments also told us what they liked about the collections at the library@orchard. Verena said the library provided her with a dose of “fiction, travel guides and lots of dog magazines”. Another person sought out bridal magazines as well as travel guides. And someone even said we “re-ignited my passion for reading fiction”… yay us!
SN got her fix of “chick lit and trashy novels”, and methinks trashy novels are cathartic and an impt element of reading for pleasure, so diss them not! Ivan recently had a brain workout reading Adbusters and More than Pixels remembers doing photography research here.
Oh oh, and there’s definitely a whole lotta ppl who read manga and graphic novels!
So what do you like to read, and btw did you know that you can recommend titles for acquisition?
I’m currently reading the Harry Potter series, am now on Book 2, The Chamber of Secrets. I know… that’s like one millenium behind everyone else.

I have to admit I have never read Harry Potter. I tried to read one of the book… once. Gave up. Just couldn’t sustain my interest.
Jillian thinks you are one of those hard-core fantasy/sf type of reader. Or maybe high or epic fantasy types.
Ok, I’m also going to own up to not having read Harry Potter. I don’t understand what all the hype is about. Tried to watch the movie once but couldn’t hold my attention. I’m more of a chick lit and romance type of person. And yes, agree with Jillian, romances are an important part of pleasurable reading. There’s always a good loving and touching ending…and it makes you believe that there is so much love all around you.
I just passed by the library@orchard ‘I Love My Library’ board on my way in to the workroom and saw that someone said on the board that they will miss us ‘cos we have got the best manga collection and I do agree with them. It’s one of our most popular collections and the good news is that we have added new titles in that collection.
