About the author: Born in London in 1930, Harold Pinter is a renowned playwright and screenwriter, inspired in part by Samuel Beckett. He is well-known for his distinctive understated style in conveying characters’ thoughts and feelings through terse dialogue and meaningful pauses. In 2005, Pinter was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

About the book: The Birthday Party is about Stanley Webber, an erstwhile piano player who lives in a run-down boarding house run by Meg and Petey Boles in an English seaside town. Two sinister strangers, Goldberg and McCann, arrive in town on Webber’s birthday, turning his birthday party organized by Meg into a nightmare.
