What the story is about: In 1962, Mississippi, three women – a young white girl and two black maids, all seemingly very different from one another – come together for a project that will shatter the prevailing social values and put everything they value (including their lives) at stake. The story was made into a movie in 2011and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2012. This book is also selected as part of the READ Singapore 2012 initiative.
