Live. Laugh. Love.

I’m going to start with something more official here.

Experience Singapore Literature (ESL)  is NLB’s initiative to create an accessible platform for the showcase of Singapore Literature. We believe that literature is best encountered and remembered through experience, and have adopted an experiential approach towards the delivery of this suite of programmes.

I’m sure you get that :)

We started ESL in June 2009 and ended with a Symposium culminating the six core episodes NLB have put together from June to October 2009. But don’t get me wrong. We don’t hibernate for the rest of the year. (Except maybe December when the rest of the world does.)

Apart from the six core episodes, our regular line-up of programmes happen almost every month as we support and showcase our local authors. As my boss puts it ‘to generate a critical mass on the promotion of local content‘.  Simply, to promote and make known Singapore Literature.  That’s like our second tier of ESL.

For the first tier, we like to  meddle a little (actually we like to meddle a LOT) in the way programmes run so we get to curate six core episodes which bring together people from different disciplines and backgrounds to bring you something more immersive. Something you will remember. Something which we do outdoors, sometimes. Something I get to see you do some work at.

So join us and ‘Live’, ‘Laugh’ and ‘Love’ in ESL Vol 2 *click to read, as we bring you multi-ethnic literatures of the communities in Singapore. As John McLeod puts it in his poetry, Live well, Laugh Often, Love much!
