Open Stage, library@esplanade
You think you’ve heard it all about life in Singapore? Come listen to storyteller Verena Tay tell her three original stories (The Perfect Shoe, The Stray Cat and Hair) and let her reveal to you perspectives of Singapore that are guaranteed to delight and entertain…
The Perfect Shoe
About a woman who seeks to keep her feet happy and so has trouble buying shoes, even for her own sister’s wedding.
The Stray Cat
This Aesopian fable of love, desire and transformation is told with a local twist starring a stray cat typically found in any downtown hawker centre.
Hair
A cautionary tale inspired by an Aesop’s fable for hirsute-challenged people blinded by love set in Singapore.
Bodata:
An Associate Artist with The Substation (Singapore’s first multidisciplinary arts centre) since 2002, Verena Tay has spent more than two decades acting, directing and writing for local English-language theatre. Since 1997, she has been concentrating on solo performances, most of which have been featured at The Substation with its support.
In addition, Verena uses all her theatrical background to bring stories vocally and physically alive in her unique fashion. Together with Kamini Ramachandran with whom she founded MoonShadow Stories in November 2004, Verena has been telling stories at The Substation, local museums and within the community, much to the delight and enjoyment of adults and children.
Verena is also the President of Magdalena (Singapore) that recently produced two double-bills of plays entitled Blood Binds, as part of Wild Rice’s OCBC Singapore Theatre Festival, with the support of the Speak Good English Movement.
