Lindberg’s Seht die Sonne, premiered in 2007 by the Berlin Philharmonic, is a glittering work of bold gestures and big effects, while Mahler’s Ninth, being his last completed symphony, is an enormous piece that resonates with intense fervour and emotion. Shanthini Moorthy speaks in detail about these monumental works at this talk.

Concert Duration (inclusive of 20 min intermission): Approx. 2 hrs 15 min

Synopsis:
Herbert von Karajan said of it, “It is music coming from another world, it is coming from eternity…”: Mahler’s final completed symphony came at a time of personal crisis – shortly after he learnt of the infidelity of his wife Alma – and is regarded by many today as his finest. Sadly it was a work whose premiere he did not live to witness.
