Synopsis:
The brilliance, energy, and warmth of Mendelssohn’s First Piano Concerto reveal the extraordinary gifts of a composer in the fine flush of maturity – at the age of only twenty-two. One of his most massive creations, Shostakovich’s Seventh Symphony was dedicated to the city of Leningrad and was, in its time, a musical symbol of resistance to and condemnation of the Nazi regime.
