Keppel Corporation’s 40th Anniversary Concert:
Symphonic Spectacular
Open Stage, library@esplanade

Speaker: Seah Huan Yuh, violinist
Guest appearance by composer, Dr Ho Chee Kong

Based on the principle of “the transformation of themes”, Liszt’s Second Piano Concerto possesses different characteristics - yearning, solemnity, sensuousness, serenity and heroism, creating a virtually seamless effect on a single theme.

Also noteworthy is the premiere of local composer Dr Ho Chee Kong’s work that is specially written for Keppel’s 40th Anniversary celebration that evening. Dr Ho joins Huan Yuh at the talk to share more about his work.

Synopsis:

Franz Liszt began his masterful Second Concerto as early as 1839, but did not put the finishing touches to it until many years later – in 1861. The 1961 Hollywood film was largely responsible for popularising West Side Story; Bernstein’s energetic symphonic dances encapsulate the essence of Shakespeare’s original tragic love story and include some of the most memorable music from the musical.
