A Little Pianist Takes the Stage — Joachim Lim (7)
Open Stage, library@esplanade
In conjunction with Octoburst! 2008 at the Esplanade
Hello Everyone,
My name is Lim Joachim. I am going to be 7 years old. I am now studying in Maris Stella High School. I am the only son in the family. I like outdoor activities like swimming and cycling. I love cooking too. During the school holidays, I would like to spend my time making pancakes, pizzas or other food items for the family. I have always imagined that I could own a restaurant where I am both the chef and the pianist there for all my friends.
I had my first encounter with music when I was 2 years old in the ‘Baby Music & Drama’ programme at Mandeville Music and Drama. I started individual piano lessons at 3 years old with my teacher, Ms Goo Chui Ping. My favourite piece of music is ‘Mozart Sonata K545 – 1st Movement’. Since 3 years old, I have heard and still very fond of listening to Lavin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin and Turkish March by Mozart. Recently, I like to explore and play my own style of music.
I performed solo on piano as well as in the Keyboard Ensemble at the various school concerts. I also enjoyed myself at the school piano workshops and masterclasses. I like to perform in concerts very much as I feel satisfied when the audience enjoys listening to me. Attached are the details of my performance.
Yours truly,
Lim Joachim
Little Wonders – Joachim
Invention in F Major BWV 779 by Johann Sebastian Bach
This is my first baroque piece by Bach. I learnt to play Mezzo Staccato and my left hand will also imitate the melody of my right hand. Playing it, I feel like riding on the chair lift in the theme park. The terrace dynamics is just like the sudden up and down movement of the chair lift.
Song Op. 172 No. 1 by Cornelius Gurlitt
Four Calling Birds by Richard Rodney Bennett
It started off with four birds singing their own tune. Later, the birds decided to have a chat together. Slowly, they started an argument. Finally, one of the birds flew away, leaving three singing their own tune again.
Jackson’s Street Blues by Martha Mier
This is my first Jazz piece. I have learnt to play jazz rhythm. I always feel like dancing with the music. There are two areas where the melody sound cheeky. There are also parts of the accompaniment that sound like strong double basses.
Fur Elise WoO 59 by Ludwig van Beethoven
It is another classical piece by Beethoven. The rhythm makes me happy and relaxed. It is also my granny’s favourite. I love to play and see her enjoying herself. My granny always gives me big applause when I am done with it.
Melodie by Josef Suk
It is a romantic piece. Whenever I play this piece, it makes my bed fly and I am like Aladdin travelling on a magic carpet. There is a part where I feel like my mum is trying to wake me up from my dream. She tries for four times and finally I am fully awake. Initially, when I practice it, my fingers feel painful as I have to stretch to reach one octave.
Sonata K545 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
It is a classical piece by Mozart. It is my favourite piece. I like the lively mood presented in it. It makes me feel like I am playing at the playground. In the music, I am hopping from the slide to the swing then to the see-saws and back to the slide and swing again before preparing to go home. The trills make my fingers running on the spot at super speed.
Please note playlist may be adjusted on the day of actual performance.
