About Asian Film Archive Collection
The Asian Film Archive Collection comprises Asian features and short films, with a focus on Southeast Asian films. A large number of these films were made by independently-funded filmmakers. Some of their works have yet to be archived in their country of origin.

These reference films may only be viewed within the premises of library@esplanade and are not available for loan. Customers can request to view the films from the Customer Service Counter at library@esplanade by filling up a request form at least a day in advance.

Information on the catalogued films can be found via NLB’s online catalogue at http://vistaweb.nlb.gov.sg or via AFA’s website at www.asianfilmarchive.org. Information on non-catalogued films can be obtained directly from the Customer Service Counter at library@esplanade or via email at info@asianfilmarchive.org.

About Asian Film Archive
The Asian Film Archive (www.asianfilmarchive.org) is a non-governmental organisation founded to preserve the rich film heritage of Singapore and Asian Cinema to encourage scholarly research on film, to promote a wider critical appreciation of this art form and to build cultural value of Asian films. Amongst other things, we do outreach programmes through our Moving Minds Project and carry out film preservation with our Reel Emergency Project. As an important nexus, it brings together the various segments of the Asian film community in order to open and enrich new intellectual, educational and creative spaces.

The Asian Film Archive has built up social capital and a large network linking important Asian filmmakers and scholars. We are governed by an independent board of directors and advised by an international board. The Asian Film Archive is an affiliate of the prestigious International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) and a member of the Southeast Asia-Pacific Audio Visual Archives Association (SEAPAVAA). Our collection includes works by some of the most renowned Asian filmmakers in the region.

About Singapore Film Commission
The Singapore Film Commission (SFC) was set up in April 1998 by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) to spur the growth of the local film industry. The SFC, initially formed under the National Arts Council (NAC), has since become part of the Media Development Authority (MDA) with effect from 1 Jan 2003. The SFC is currently constituted as a Committee under MDA.

SFC’s mission is to “nurture, support and promote Singapore talent in filmmaking, the production of Singapore films, and a film industry in Singapore”. The Commission, appointed by Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, is spearheaded by 14 members from both the private and public sectors.

The SFC’s key areas of focus are: Funding, Facilitation and Promotion. On average, the SFC supports the production of approximately four feature films, 70 short films, and 20 script and project development projects each year. In addition, about 50 filmmakers also benefit from the Overseas Travel Grant which funds their trips to festivals in which their films have been selected for competition or screening.
