‘Superstition’

“When you believe in things that you don’t understand,
Then you suffer, superstition aint the way”

                                                                                -‘Superstition’ by Stevie Wonder

These simple lyrics remind us of the first Singapore Idol, Taufik Batisah who sang it during the finale of the competition. Some may not remember or even know who the original singer is, but for others who do, they would know that he is one of the most talented and respected singer of all times - Stevie Wonder. Never did he regard his blindness as a hindrance to succeed in the music industry.

Stevie Wonder was born in 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born premature and was put into an incubator. When too much oxygen in the incubator caused cataracts to grow behind each eye, it left the infant blind for life. He released a series of innovative, commercially successful albums featuring a fusion of progressive rock, soul, and sentimental ballads-always incorporating biting social commentaries into the lyrics. He is a multi-instrumentalist who plays piano, congas, harmonica, bongos, and bass guitar, just to name a few.
