Do caterpillars have teeth? Do snakes have necks?

Kids ASK! about Science & Technology

Caterpillars do have opposable toothed mandibles to chew their food. It can be seen using a magnifying glass.

Pythons have only one neck vertebra out of a total of over 300 vertebrae. All the rest have attached ribs and form an unusual trunk one long, skinny rib cage. Thus, it depends on what kind of snakes you are referring to.

The colour red of the flag represents universal brotherhood and equality of man and white represents everlasting virtue and purity. The crescent moon represents a developing young nation. The five stars represent the nation’s ideals: democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

Why do children resemble either their mother or father later on in life? I am 49 years old-my son is 21 years. He resembles me and has my voice.

ASK! about Family & Parenting

Children resemble either their mother of father because they inherit their parents’ genes. Heredity is the passing of genes from one generation to the next. Your son inherits your genes, therefore he resembles you and has your “voice”. Therefore, as they get older, they look more and more like you.

The essence of heredity is the reproduction of the carriers of genetic information, the genes. As a result, biological organisms, including human beings, reproduce organisms resembling themselves; human children are always recognizably human and have phenotypes similar to those of their parents.

Your son has most likely passed the puberty stage (which usually occurs between 13-15 years old) and thus his voice has change to a more permanent “adult male” deeper tone.

How does ebay work? What can I do if I paid for a product from ebay but didn’t receive it?

ASK! about Computers & IT

According to eBay.com:

What is eBay?
eBay is the world’s online marketplace; a place for buyers and sellers to come together and trade almost anything!

Here’s how eBay works:

  • A seller lists an item on eBay, most anything from antiques to cars, books to sporting goods. The seller chooses to accept only bids for the item (an auction-type listing) or to offer the Buy It Now option, which allows buyers to purchase the item right away at a fixed price.
  • In an online auction, the bidding opens at a price the seller specifies and remains on eBay for a certain number of days. Buyers then place bids on the item. When the listing ends, the buyer with the highest bid wins.
  • In a Buy It Now listing, the first buyer willing to pay the seller’s price gets the item.

More information about eBay can be found at the eBay.com Help page.

If you did not receive the product you’ve paid for, eBay has a “Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described Process“. Typically, this process has 5 steps:
Step 1: The buyer opens a dispute.
Step 2: eBay contacts the seller.
    Step 3: The seller responds.
Step 4: The buyer and seller communicate.
Step 5: The dispute is closed.

However, eBay recommends that you take these steps (Step-by-Step Guide to Buyer Protection) before using the above process.

More information about this issue can also be found on eBay’s Seller Non-Performance Policy page. This policy exists to ensure that sellers uphold their end of the contract.

All websites last accessed 4th Sep, 2006.

The library also has various print resources on eBay which you might find useful for future transactions. And there are some websites that also provide information. Read on for a sampling of these books and sites!
